What is the IMDHD?
It is a civil organization that promotes links and meetings with various social, political, academic and civil actors to generate proposals and initiatives in order to achieve respect and strengthening of human rights in Mexico.
Objectives of the position
As a web designer, I joined the communication team to support the digital communication strategy with the conceptualization and creation of digital specials, manager of the Community Digital Communication project, as well as the redesign and maintenance of the website.
Rol
- Web designer and developer
- Community Digital Communication project manager
- Workshop facilitator
- Content creator for the website and social media.
Being on the Instituto team was part of my life experience in Mexico. A job in which colleagues, various defenders and groups taught me about the panorama of the Defense of Human Rights in Mexico and the challenges that arise from communication and appropriation of the issue in society.
In my experience of more than 2 years at the Mexican Institute of Human Rights and Democracy (IMDHD), I had the challenge of working in different roles at the same time: designer, programmer, project manager and workshop facilitator.
Being part of a team of a Civil Society Organization, it is common to assume different roles to optimize resources and achieve more actions with a limited budget.

My journey began with the project of redesigning the institute’s website in WordPress. While working on the design and programming, at the same time work was done to change the communication scheme and content. Change the plain text formula for one where there would also be space for the voices of those who work in the Defense of their Rights and who supported the Institute in its work.
Internal pages have the option of having a complementary menu to facilitate navigation. The menu could point to subsections, but also to anchors in the content to make long posts easier to read.
One goal in redesigning it was to make it easier to manage without sacrificing the visual appeal of the website. Previously, everything was done manually and the process of updating entries for the home page and its sections was automated.
Digital Specials and Storytelling
Following the redesign, I became actively involved in creating new digital content, including digital specials and articles for the website. This process allowed me to put my writing and content creation skills to the test, ensuring that each piece conveyed the message and importance of our mission.
Community Digital Communication Project
An outstanding achievement was leading the Digital Literacy project called “Curso de Comunicación Digital Comunitaria”, financed by the Swiss Embassy in Mexico. This course became a collaborative learning space, in which we worked together to identify the best strategies to reach a broader public interested in the Defense of Human Rights through the Internet.
I am proud to have contributed to the strengthening of the IMDHD, promoting awareness and action in the fight for Human Rights. I am excited to continue challenging myself on meaningful projects that drive positive change in our society.
